Upon arrival at Berkeley Plantation, guests are greeted by costumed guides and escorted to the original Georgian mansion for their conducted tour. Built in 1726, the mansion occupies a beautifully landscaped hilltop site overlooking the historic James River and is furnished with a magnificent collection of 18th century antiques. The tour includes an audio-visual program and museum. The museum collection includes Civil War artifacts as well as a unique collection of paintings by Sydney King.

The gardens and grounds are self-guided. Five terraces of restored boxwood and flower gardens offer breathtaking vistas of the James River. Benches are arranged throughout the gardens to sit and enjoy this delightful and peaceful setting.

Student tours are available on a variety of topics for grades K-12, including Colonial Times-Life of a child during the 18th century, Wm. Henry Harrison-our nations 9th U.S. President, and Civil War-McClellan’s Army at Harrison’s Landing in 1862.

Specialty tours, after-hour candlelight tours, and refreshments served on the lawn by the Chippendale Gazebo are also available for an additional fee.

Allow approximately 1-1 1/2 hours for the guided house tour and self-guided garden tour.
